How to Use Auto-Tune

Auto-tune is a piece of technology that corrects pitch. It's really, really prevalent in the music industry today, and the tech is so good that many performers use it at live shows to correct their tuning. It's very neat, and if you listen to any pop music you've probably heard some of the funny effects/distortions you can get from it.

I'm trying to figure out how to use it right now with Sound Forge 9, and right now it seems fucking impossible. I was wondering if any of you use the software or know of any setups on which it works well.

(If you're interested, this is a Nova presentation on Auto-Tune, and this is a segment called "Auto-Tune the News", where a dude from Brooklyn uses the software on clips from--you guessed it--the news.

There is an hot spot clicker set for auto tune with help files available at hotspotclicker.org thats also where you can get the hotspot clicker software. I believe the sets on that page are for AutoTune 5 but i do believe someone is working one ones currently for the latest version, hopefully they will decide to make them freely available on that site as well when done. The Sets on that page are intended for use with in Sonar with JSonar jaws scripts not sure if they will work alone independent of using them in Sonar.

I am also looking for the autotune plug in for sound forge as the one I currently have doesn't let me use it with sound forge, sound forge uses direct x plug ins I believe and if I remember correctly autotune isn't a direct x plug in, it's a vst plug in.
I'm no recording expert though so please, correct me if there is something i have wrong, I would love to use autotune with sound forge as well.
cheers
Jess

oh man, I don't use sound forge, I don't wanna buy it, I'd love to get my hands on some auto tune software just to play with. lol, I'm a nerd.

say though for example, if someone did have sound forge 8, would the auto tune plug in work? and how does one go about getting it?

It's been the complete ruination of pop music. You can be a star now and not able to sing a note. It's supremely annoying.

Autotune is better used in a program like Sonar. I use it all the time

Dead by april use it a few times in their album, and they are excellent without it.

I am going to stay away from the debate aboutit ruing pop music, cuz well its been used to pitch correct singers, horns, and other instruments for years with out most even noticing, But now that its used on every hit song for the talks box effect instead of the subtle pitch correcting thats its been doing unnoticed for years it is getting a little annoying. lol Anyways. Sound Forge as of Version 7, maybe bersion 6 supported VST plug ins so you should be able to use auto tune with it. I do however agree with the poster above that said its better used in something like sonar, but if you can't get your hands on that you can try sound Forge. If it isn't showing up on your plug ins list in Sound Forge .. varify which Folder the Auto Tune VST .dll file is in and in the sound forge perferances under the vst tab set Sound forge to scan that folder.

so it won't work in any sound forge above 7? damn I have 9, shucks.

it should work in 9 version 7 is where it started supporting VST effects so 7, 8, or 9 all have VST support. I have used VST effects in all 3 of those versions of sound forge.

If anyone wants the plugin, hit me up on pm or something. It's a real bitch to use in Sound Forge though, I still haven't figured it out. Which version of Sonar would be best to try?
